FRESHLY SHUCKED OYSTERS 3pc
We both had oyster as appy and they were pretty good. Nothing spectacular but covered all the grounds - fresh and standard garnishes. It would have been nice if they had their house hot sauce. (I guess I am too used to Rodney Oyster house style)
SUN CHOKE SOUP
(Green Herb Oil, Sun Choke Chip, Potato Croquette)This was a great, hearty soup! So creamy and slightly nutty which was a good contrast with the crispy potato croquette.
(Haricot Vert, Tomato Jam, Olives, Soft Egg, Meyer Citrus)Another great appetizer. Albacore tuna and soft boiled egg went unexpectedly well.
GRILLED NY STRIPLOIN (+$2)
(Crispy Potato Salad, Hoisin BBQ, Grilled Scallion)
This was main dish - but a smaller version in my opinion. I asked for medium rare and I got medium to well-done. :( However, the meat was tender enough and it went very well with Hoisin BBQ sauce. I don't mind sweet sauces but if you don't like your meat with sweet flavor, this wouldn't be the one for you. I liked potatoes with the steak but oddly made me feel like that I was having steak and potato brunch...:p
LOCAL LING COD
(Apple Dashi, Roasted Celeriac, Brussel Sprouts, Crispy Leek)Another small main dish. I felt the cod was a tiny bit overcooked - perhaps left it on the pan for too long for that crispiness outside. It was good dish with different textures and savory broth to have the fish with.
- decent food
- consistent quality on all dish
- cozy & romantic ambiance
- Oyster on the Dine out menu
-Slow service: could be because of the dine out, but it did not seemed to be super packed. we had to wait quite a bit between each course.
- O-kay portion: if you were really hungry, you might need little more than these 3 courses.
