18 January 2014

Today is the first day of Dine Out Vancouver 2014. It started from today and will last until February 7th. The Reef on Commercial is our first choice for the event because it has a pretty good menu options for a $18 restaurant. We also wondered how it is different from the one on Main street. The Reef restaurant opened in May 2009. It is established by two friends Liz da Mata and Simon Cotton whose long-term friendship and collective work experience has translated into "a friendly atmosphere that can be felt the moment you enter their cozy island environment." As we went in the restaurants, we can feel a very warm welcome and an ambience that we feel like we are in the Caribbean Islands. It's quite dark inside but it created a nice vibe and privacy since you don't feel like to disturb other people. There are live music in some selective weekdays and weekends. It is fully licensed and serves typical Caribbean beers like Red Stripe beer and Dragon Stout. While I had a bottle of Jamaican beer Dragon Stout‎ from Desnoes & Geddes Ltd, J had a Pina Colada‎ cocktail which she said it's pretty amazing.

FINAL VERDICT

THE GOOD
- Decent Caribbean food.
- Nice cocktail and good selection of imported beers.
- Nice vibe and atmosphere. Feel like going to a pub/restaurant in a tropical Caribbean country.

THE BAD
- Slow Service. (We might need to pass on this since it was the first day of the Dine out Vancouver 2014 and it was totally packed)

RECOMMENDATIONS
- Jerk Chicken
- Jerk Chicken Wings
- Pina Colada
